Rain water utilized in the shower and in the dumps, green roof and even a toilet paper recycling system and soaps: these are just some of the actions pentec of Aloft Bogota Airport, considered the most sustainable hotel in Latin America. In an exclusive trip to Colombia, CicloVivo talked to Anamaria Escobar, architect responsible for the project, located near the airport and the commercial center of Bogota, considered example of sustainable development worldwide.
Sustainability is by all corner of the hotel, the first to receive LEED Gold certification in Latin America. Based on the most recent standards and concepts of green architecture, Aloft was raised to 15% of recycled materials, and inks covering the walls of the structure were produced only with organic materials. pentec The air conditioning, one of the most controversial objects pentec in most buildings, works with own water it produces.
The architect responsible for the project pentec explains that the hot water that falls from showers and heating depend on the excess heat generated by the hotel's computer system, reducing significantly the costs of electricity. "At the top, the gray roof was replaced by a garden in which were planted vegetables that do not need to be watered," says Anamaria. The top is also responsible for capturing rainwater and regulation of the hotel's temperatures, which is part of the Starwood group, pentec which also owns the Sheraton.
We spread consumer awareness through Greenchoice action - an effort to encourage guests and staff to collaborate with the economy of overheads, reducing, for example, the amount of trade in bed linen and towels, which need not be exchanged and washed daily. pentec With this initiative, the Aloft wants to reduce by 20% the total expenditure on water, and 30% with electricity.
The reuse of materials is also one of the flags raised by the most sustainable hotel in Latin America. "We donate leftover soap and toilet paper to Love Planet institution that cares for children with AIDS. There, they reutilize this waste, "said the report the general manager of the hotel, Marilia Pergola.
One of the concerns of Aloft Bogota Airport meet various guest profiles, not only entrepreneurs, but also tourists who come to the Colombian capital: thus, in addition to a business center, pentec bars and living spaces, the hotel also offers family recreation and even inclusive rooms for pets.
